Hey, thanks for tuning in to another Partner Interview at EcomBalance. At EcomBalance, we’re all about creating win-win partnerships where we are able to grow with other companies in the ecommerce space.
In this exclusive interview, we have a conversation with George Barnett Reid from Georges Blog.
Connor: Hey George, thanks for taking the time to chat with us today. As a company, one of our goals is to highlight our partners so that our clients can benefit where it makes most sense. To get started, can you give us a high-level introduction to Georges Blog and a little bit about how the company got started?
George: Georges Blog, or GB, is a seasoned Amazon agency, established over six years ago after my tenure at Amazon. We specialise in helping brands optimise their Amazon advertising and design.
Connor: Thanks for sharing that! Can you dive a bit more into the account management services you offer? Our audience is always looking for reputable companies that they can lean on for specific parts of their eCommerce businesses.
George: Our account management services focus on Amazon advertising strategy, implementation, and campaign optimisation, complemented by sophisticated design solutions. We act as a dependable extension of our clients’ eCommerce teams. Our team is based in India, which also makes us price competitive.
Connor: Jumping off of that…when you’re thinking about your ideal customer, who is that? Where are they selling online? Where are they located in the world? How much sales do they typically have in a year? If there’s any other qualities, please include them as well. We’re all about making introductions where it benefits both parties.
George: Our ideal customers are brands selling on Amazon, located globally, who understand that growth and profit are 2 separate goals. Which you focus on a different stages. We’re not looking for owners that want to 2X sales in 1-month whilst also increasing margins by 30%. We’re realistic.
Connor: For our audience to truly understand what makes you stand out from other companies in account management, can you share a story of how Georges Blog truly helped one of its customers?
George: We primed a gift box client for Q4 leading to their $15k October sales up to $460k in December. I put this down to account obsession. Our team have a low number of accounts, and operate manually with the use of self-built offline tools for bulk operations. This means they simply have more time in the account. And they don’t rely on software.
Connor: As you and your company think about the next year ahead, what does it look like? Are there any specific initiatives that you’re working on as a team to better your services for your customers?
George: We’ve built, and continue to build, the world’s biggest collection of Amazon design examples. To inspire your next design project. It’s guaranteed to save 2-hours a week for any Amazon design team. https://creatives.georges.blog/
Connor: How about this…everyone loves a company’s growth story. We all naturally go through ups and downs as a company. What was one of the biggest challenges that the company faced in its growing stages?
George: I ran it with my Brother. Initially we set up an Amazon academy. It had 200 paying members and worked well. We fell out a lot though. I eventually bought him out. Now he runs a booming hair care brand with his wife and we get on a lot better.
Connor: Thanks! Let’s talk some eCommerce! Where do you see the industry heading in the next 1-2 years? Any big changes that you’re predicting for the industry? How can eCommerce companies prepare for it?
George: SaaS providers scrambling to add ai capabilities that will dazzle but likely not offer anything more. Advertising managers won’t be replaced in the next 2 years. You need someone with sound logic in the room right now. That will change in the future. But not yet.
Connor: Changing gears a little bit…When it comes to bookkeeping and accounting, what do you think the biggest pain points for eCommerce business owners are? Feel free to speak from personal experience as well.
George: They don’t outsource it. All you need is an Excel whizz to make you a macro sheet and pull the data each month. Most tools are basically just fancy UI’s on top of Excel/Sheets. Downside, they don’t understand their numbers well enough.
Connor: Okay, here’s an open mic opportunity. If there’s one thing that you’d want the EcomBalance community to hear from you, what would it be?
George: There’s lots of good agencies for ads. Don’t just go for the biggest. Guarantees nothing. And you have to pay more for their local talent. Which is typically less experienced than talent in India/Pakistan. Don’t pay a design retainer from an agency. Design work is project based. You don’t need a new A+ every month. Get someone great on Behance, give them loads of examples of what you love, and do the work in 10X less time and 10X less cost.
