In this exclusive interview, we interview Lem Turner from Helium 10, an all-in-one software solution for Amazon sellers. 

He’s a Brand Evangelist who has managed over +$1M of Ad Spend and +$10M of Ad Sales over his career for dozens of brands. On his own, he’s an upper 6-figure seller and PPC expert who has done a blend of consulting, private label, and retail arbitrage in the past.


In his free time, he loves playing with his two dogs and trying new food with his fiance.

Connor: Hey Lem, thanks for taking the time to chat with us today. As a company, one of our goals is to highlight our partners so that our clients can benefit where it makes most sense. To get started, can you give us a high-level introduction to Helium 10 and a little bit about how the company got started?


Lem: Helium 10 is an all-in-one software solution for Amazon Sellers to help them start, scale, and be successful with their business! It all started with our founders, Manny & Gui, doing a podcast on their own strategies on how they optimize their business on Amazon. It eventually got to a point where it made sense for them to create their own software solution for what they needed, which is how our listing optimization tool, Scribbles, came about! From there, the rest was history.


Connor: Thanks for sharing that! Can you dive a bit more into the products and services that you offer to easily manage and grow thriving e-commerce businesses? Our audience is always looking for reputable companies that they can lean on for specific parts of their eCommerce businesses.


Lem: Our most popular solutions are for product research and keyword research. Being able to find high-quality, low-competition products and then validating the keyword demand driving the traffic behind them has been Helium 10’s bread and butter. Beyond that, our offerings span from market research to listing optimization to inventory management and more! We indeed do try to embody being an all-in-one solution for Amazon sellers.


Connor: Jumping off of that…when you’re thinking about your ideal customer, who is that? Where are they selling online? Where are they located in the world? How much sales do they typically have in a year? If there’s any other qualities, please include them as well. We’re all about making introductions where it benefits both parties.


Lem: That’s a great question. This might not be as helpful of an answer, but our ideal customer is genuinely anyone willing to learn and be open-minded about the process! We have a massive global presence, and our tools are widely available in several different markets outside of the USA. We welcome all Amazon and Walmart sellers of any level as we have a ton of resources that can assist brand new sellers and those who are doing 8-figures a year.


Connor: For our audience to truly understand what makes you stand out from other companies in the Amazon software and tools space, can you share a story of how Helium 10 truly helped one of its customers?


Lem: Our customers can leverage our tools to maximize their listing’s strength, exploit their competitors’ weaknesses, and successfully capture and retain market share within their niche. We have hundreds of testimonials from our customers who have been able to achieve their goals, thanks to Helium10!


Connor: As you and your company think about the next year ahead, what does it look like? Are there any specific initiatives that you’re working on as a team to better your product or service for your customers?


Lem: It comes down to one word. Consistency. We recently had a webinar called the Bigger Better Launch, where we announced that we would be coming out with new tools and features every month. We constantly get a ton of feedback from our users about what they would like to see. This is us taking that seriously and implementing the most popular requests into Helium 10 to help our users level up their game on Amazon & Walmart.


Connor: How about this…everyone loves a company’s growth story. We all naturally go through ups and downs as a company. What was one of the biggest challenges that the company faced in its growing stages?


Lem: Our biggest challenge during our growth phase, where we brought on over 100 employees into the company, was ensuring that we maintained our company culture of putting our users first. Innovation increased at an exponential rate internally, so understanding what the modern-day Amazon & Walmart Seller needed as a company was crucial.


Connor: Thanks! Let’s talk some eCommerce! Where do you see the industry heading in the next 1-2 years? Any big changes that you’re predicting for the industry? How can eCommerce companies prepare for it?


Lem: I think we are headed towards a slow down in growth as a whole industry and as brick-and-mortar stores start to rise in popularity. The pandemic accelerated the growth of the eCommerce industry, but that growth was by no means a permanent trend. Regardless of the slowdown, I believe one of the more important priorities for those within eCommerce has been to offer an omnichannel solution which is precisely why Helium 10 has been expanding our toolset more into Walmart.


Connor: Changing gears a little bit…When it comes to bookkeeping and accounting, what do you think the biggest pain points for eCommerce business owners are? Feel free to speak from personal experience as well.


Lem: One of the most significant pain points, which I have personally experienced, is understanding just how much capital you have at any one time to make monetary decisions. Decisions such as PPC campaigns, reordering inventory or investing in marketing assets for your products. Not understanding your current available capital can accidentally spread your business too thin or stifle growth due to a lack of utilizing available money.
