In this exclusive interview, we interview Laura McCaul from Sponsored Profit, an Amazon advertising agency based out of the UK.

 

Laura McCaul is co-founder of Sponsored Profit, an official Amazon Advertising Partner. She is an Amazon PPC, SEO, and copywriting expert and has been helping FBA brands maximize their visibility and sales since 2016.

Connor: Hey Laura, thanks for taking the time to chat with us here. We love getting to know our partners better so that our community can benefit from what our partners are offering and doing in the industry. To get started, can you give us a high level overview of Sponsored Profit and how it got started? 

 

Laura: We’re an Amazon Advertising agency based in the UK. We’re also former Amazon sellers. What started as a fun, side project helping other sellers increase their visibility and sales on Amazon quickly grew into the perfect business for us. 

 

Connor: That’s awesome! Can you dive a bit more into the products and services that you offer? I’m sure our audience would love to know exactly what problems you could solve for them. 

 

Laura: Most Amazon sellers don’t know how to scale their PPC advertising and are leaving a ton of money on the table as a result. Sponsored Profit specializes in scalable PPC management for growing Amazon sellers so they can make more sales, bigger profits, and build a business they can sell. We take care of all Amazon PPC-related tasks so sellers can spend LESS time in their campaigns and MORE time growing their business.

 

Connor: Jumping off of that…if there was one problem you’d say that Sponsored Profit solves best for your clients, what would it be? Why? 

 

Laura: According to research, 1 in 4 ad dollars is wasted on Amazon. 1 in 4! Our Misspend Prevention Method cuts ad waste by an extra 30% to 53% and reallocates those ad dollars to what’s actually working to put our clients’ ad budget where it matters. That way, our clients can finally have confidence that they are maximizing their sales on Amazon.  

 

Connor: As the company continues to grow over the next year, what are your plans for expansion? Any new products or offerings or enhancements to your current products? 

 

Laura: We are just putting the finishing touches on a paid PPC Account Audit service. We ​​dive deep into a seller’s account to give them the insights they need to improve their ads and grow their business.  We find where the problems are and what a seller needs to do to fix them. Our deep-dive audit is perfect for sellers who are managing their ads themselves or are working with an agency and wondering if it can be done better.

 

Connor: And how specifically would you say that Sponsored Profit and your team is different from other similar businesses in the industry?

 

Laura: Every Amazon business is unique and should be treated as such. We create a personalized Amazon growth plan that is tailored to a seller’s specific budget and business needs, not some one-size-fits-all strategy, to deliver measurable results. In addition, we don’t let software do all the work. Instead, you get an accredited Amazon Ads specialist who uses a mix of manual control and automation to ensure every ad dollar goes towards meeting their goals. 

 

Connor: What made you decide to get involved in the space? What’s your starting eCommerce story? From what we’ve found, a lot of business owners in the space have fun stories of how they first started…

 

Laura: I was working in Los Angeles as a Landscape Designer. When I decided to move back to the UK, working outdoors did not have the same appeal! Around the same time, a friend introduced me to the opportunity on Amazon. Having had more than my fair share of frustrations with various gardening tools, I jumped at the chance to build a brand selling gardening products that would resolve those frustrations.

 

Connor: Love it! Talking more about the eCommerce industry, where do you see it going in the next 1-2 years? Any unique predictions that you could share? Or trends that you’re seeing that eCommerce businesses should keep an eye out for?

 

Laura: Branding is more important than ever on Amazon. Every customer touchpoint is an opportunity to communicate your brand story and cultivate loyalty. Amazon Advertising has evolved to help sellers reach customers no matter where they are in the shopping journey. Video ads in particular are a great way to do this. We are already seeing a shift towards more video with the introduction of carousel ads and we can expect to see more videos in the search results.

 

Connor: Giving you an open mic for a minute, what is something you’d want the EcomBalance audience to hear?

 

Laura: Amazon PPC is complicated. But there is a simple way to get better-performing ads and maximize the return on your ad dollars. And that’s to have a product listing that is continually optimized for conversions. Too many sellers neglect this yet a high converting product listing means more sales for the same ad spend.  

 

Connor: Changing gears a little bit…When it comes to bookkeeping and accounting, what do you think the biggest pain points for business owners are? Feel free to speak from personal experience as well. 

 

Laura: Most Amazon sellers don’t know their numbers, in particular, their profitability. We see it all the time. But sellers must understand and compile all of their overhead costs because they need to know how much they can afford to invest in PPC if they want to grow, and potentially exit, their business.
